Disrespect at its best in a place of education no less. This is an educational picture video showing photos of donkeys used for a fundraising project at a Michigan high school. It may be fun and games for those who want the money and choose to participate in the “game”. But does it appear this is really fun for the donkeys?
Quote from a high school student: “It is stupid, anyone with a brain can tell they (donkeys) do not want to be doing this.”

Thank you for …
Thank you for raising awareness about this so called “sport”. Donkeys don’t deserve to be treated like that.
I am a student at …
I am a student at VHS and went to the game. I have many animals including horses. I am against animal cruelty but neither for or against banning donkey basketball
An animal that has …
An animal that has to be dragged around the court is not having fun…Why not spend a little time coming up with a unique fund raiser and quit bugging the Donks.
I see nothing …
I see nothing appealing about an adult riding on a small animnal, tugging and holding on to the donkey’s ears! They look terrifed not to mention the loudness of the crowd!
How about next year we use those *humans* who find this funny- as the donkeys instead- Large adults can ride your back then you can look like the jack@ss whose being abused?!
Thanks for sharing,
Blue
To appease others …
To appease others would show lack of my commitment to stop animal cruelty. We educated PG/VHS in the past. This year’s BB game proved you/VHS did not accept input. You wouldn’t have listened w/ an open mind had I extended myself to help. I don’t consider my lack of help in this fundraiser any more than my personal stand against the use of animals to attain your goal. I devote much of my time volunteering just as you do. When I opposed this, it was the choice of the event, not the reason for it.
Yes there are rules …
Yes there are rules- and rules are often broken.

the donkeys in the donkey basketball games aren’t mis treated people their very well taken care of . i know this b/c there are rules to the game they take care of the donkeys very well. no hitting or abusing the donkeys are allowed in the game. or THEY GET KICKED OUT so okay their not harming them these donkeys are used to ppl riding them its what their trained to do get over it?!
We are sorry that …
We are sorry that our fundraiser offended you.
AS the parent of a senior like you are, we would have welcomed you help with fundraisers and input at meetings. It is always easier to sit back and criticize others than it is to get involved and volunteer you time. We have spent countless hours of our time this year trying to do soemthing nice for the Class of 2008. Our fund raiser offended you, and your comments and attacks offended me.
Superintentant of …
Superintentant of Schools Glaes seems to think that Vicksburg students don’t know animal cruelty when they see it; that they are not as sophisticated as students in big cities. He more or less blew off a letter pointing out how donkey basketball involved animal abuse and made excuses by saying that Vicksurg is a rural community with a different set of values. Well now, maybe it’s the Superintendant who doesn’t know abuse when he sees it.

All ‘sports’ should contain willing participants. Boycott donkey basketball!
Suffering, pain, …
Suffering, pain, confusion, panic- yeah THAT’S the wway to raise money and have some fun. Abolish the abuse- nationwide. There is no excuse for this behavior.
Thank you for …
Thank you for posting this video. The photos in it were taken at Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, Michigan. You can write to the principal to protest. As of 12/4/2007 the principal was: Rob Kuhlman, Principal, Vicksburg High School, 501 E. Highway St., Vicksburg, MI 49097.
Furthermore, the …
Furthermore, the stands look virtually empty. Which is to say these animals were exploited for nothing! Did the school even manage to raise ANY funds? (Although even if they raised enough funds to cover all graduation expenses for the next four graduating classes, it is not worth the torture and cruelty inflicted on these beautiful animals.)
Yes let’s teach our …
Shame on everyone who allows this to continue !
Yes let’s teach our children that this kind of behavior and mistreatment of animals is acceptable – IT IS NOT ! This is out and out animal cruelty – where are the welfare laws – where is the ASPCA ? Charges should be brought against the school – and each individual who is responsible for this disgusting spectacle –
Exploiting animals …
Exploiting animals for amusement is as American as apple pie! Anything to make a buck, right? If educators and administrators believe it is OK to indulge in animal abuse, for “charity”, what is the real lesson that is being taught to the kids? It takes a public outcry to shame those who sponsor such events and activists should make a point of contacting school officials as soon as they get wind of any such activities being proposed.
Only an ignorant …
Only an ignorant fool would think this is fun to watch. Of all the wonderful ways there are to amuse yourself why would anyone want to see defenseless animals poked with a stick and trying to ride an animal that probably doesn’t weigh as much as you do is not fun. Can’t these backward thinking people come up with something besides animal abuse.
