I am in charge of 10th grades and part of the responsibility is to do 2 fundraisers each year to raise money for their prom. I have been trying to come up with something for a low income community that will raise some money. The students are not very involved either, which makes it impossible to have a successful fundraiser. Please help me with some ideas (that require little work on my part, as I am the only person that will do anything about it- that's a completely different story though)
Sorry, I forgot to mention that my district is pretty strict when it comes to what the state feels is healthy. They have already put strict rules into play about not using food as a fundraiser, unless its healthy. Last year, I did a Krispy Kreme card, and we raised almost a $1000. This worked really well, and I would love to do it again, but…
We can't sell anything that the state has decided is unhealthy, which leaves out a lot of good ideas.
Candy grams for V-day, beads for Mardi Gras, we sold Roses for V-day to raise money for my chorus class and we also did singing valentines.

If your school allows it, food sales and candy sales tend to do well. Chocolate bars for $1.00 are quick and easy. Depending on the area you live in, a food sale like Nachos might do well. In the school where I teach, Nachos always sell very well!! (You would need to recruit at least a few people to help out–it would extremely difficult for one person to do it alone.)
Another idea might be a Car Wash.

my junior class is selling bean burritos for a 1.50 at lunch. we've done this twice and its been great. While we sell burritos, the sophomore class sells pop for .50 and they have pepsi, dr pepper, mt.dew. Candy bars are also good because they're cheap.

Valentines day is coming up….you could deliver paper hearts that are order & paid for in advance. They could be signed or anonymous

Hi Stacy!
I know the feeling…I've been heavily involved with nonprofit/school fund raising for years….so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your school…
1) Consider a mail campaign – depending on how many mailing addresses you have, you never know how many people might respond to your cause and just write you a check! This works amazingly well for several organizations that are short on time AND resources.
2) Consider running an online auction – this is an AWESOME way to get to the people whose mailing addresses you don't have (ie you've got their EMAILS)…your school's email base can feel like they're using their expendable income on great stuff AND its going to the school at the same time! I've included a link of one of the online auction companies that I've worked with…cMarket. They also have another website, BiddingforGood.com, that opens your auction up to all their members so that people who you don't even know can donate to your cause and bid on your items!
3) Have a fundraising event – give people something to look forward to, and host a gala….you can sell tickets, have an auction, raffle prizes, etc that will give the parents something to look forward to AND a reason to donate to their school!
