School Fundraising Ideas

Helping you raise money to support your teachers and kids

I am interested in starting a theater company which would tour around to school in my state, and perform musical stage shows for the student body. We would focus on Elementary age group.

What we are trying to figure out is how to charge for the service, this is where we need your help. Should we:

A) Charge the schools a flat-fee. Generally in the range of $2,000 – $2,500.00?

B) Charge each student directly to attend, generally around $5-$6 per student.

C) Sell tickets to the school at a discount, roughly $3.50 – $4.50, and let the school turn around and re-sell them for a higher rate, as a fundraiser for the school.

OR should we not just perform for the student body, but instead perform the show after school, and let the school purchase a set number of tickets, at say $5.00 each, and then re-sell them to children, parents, neighbors, etc and then put on a public show.

This would allow the school to fundraiser, would not require that the school sell just to students, etc..

Your thoughts are appreciated!

If I were you, I’d send all the schools in my area a quick survey asking them those very questions along with an SASE for them to return it in. Make the questions short and sweet and provide boxes they can check off for their answers. Make the survey short and something they can take in less than a minute. Otherwise, I’d see if I could make an appoinment with each school principal, pitch them the idea and ask them for their input. Again, make the meeting short and sweet. This would not only give you the answers to your questions, but also let you know how much interest there is out there before you get too far into it. Good luck!
