What are good fundraisers and community service projects for my school NJHS?
I’m an officer and our job is to think of things, but we’re all a bunch of dingbats and can’t think of anything original and fun that kids will actually participate in. We have to have 10 hours done by Christmas time.
On our district, high school students come to the elementary schools to assist the teachers in the afternoon (like 12-3p).
Then there’s the reading program for elementary students that are struggling with reading. (Their teachers know who they are). The young students are dismissed to the cafeteria about a half hour before their bus, volunteers meet them there and help them practice their reading until time to go home.
They also run a "big buddy program" (in the elementary school gym) one day a week for a couple hours after school to play sports and games with the younger kids. (Especially the ones with only one parent at home)
Our high school hosts a craft show once a year and charges $75 to $125 per table for vendors to set up (they rent a space and bring their own table). Many newspapers offer free ads for nonprofit groups. On top of that, if you set up your own table and sell homemade cookies or snacks and drinks (donated by other students and local businesses), you’ll make even more $$. The busiest tables I’ve ever seen at craft shows are the ones selling snacks and drinks.

For community service projects you can check with your local groups (american red cross, ymca, soup kitchen, shelters, etc.). They are always looking for help. You can also volunteer your time to rake leaves, shovel for elderly people that can’t do it themselves. Senior centers or children centers (boys/girls clubs) could always use extra help.
