School Fundraising Ideas

Helping you raise money to support your teachers and kids

To be more specific, it is for my high school’s music department. Preferably I would want to do something that involves music in order to fund raise, but any ideas are welcome. Also, I would prefer it wasn’t something that involves selling junk food, because I’d like to steer away from that.

Thanks for your help :)

Fall is a great time to do a fundraiser with candles. I know of a really simple program that many music groups have used. In case you would like more information, I’ve included a link.

  1. Michelle Said,

Hold a small concert somewhere during lunch, or before/after school. Maybe get a small ensemble together, prepare some popular tunes, school songs, or some funky jazz music, and set up a collection jar saying something like "Donations go toward the [insert school name]’s Music Programs"

Make jewelry, cell phone charms, key chains, etc. that are in your school’s colors, and maybe have a music note or a treble clef charm on them. You can sell them for a few bucks during school hours to bring in some extra money. Be sure you make an announcement of some kind ahead of time so that people will know about it, and be ready to buy them.

Hold a raffle. Get a group of friends together to pitch in some money and buy something really nice (iPod, bicycle/scooter, tickets to a concert/game, XBox 360, trip for two/four somewhere, gift certificate/gas card, etc.), and sell little ticket stubs to students/faculty. This is a very popular one, and it’s SO easy when everyone pitches in. Maybe you could make the prize a "combo pack" if a lot of people pitch in and help. Hold the raffle well in advanced (like, a month or two after you start selling tickets) so that you have plenty of time to sell tickets. This is especially popular if you host the raffle right before the holidays. Maybe you could make the prize music-related. Maybe give away front-row concert tickets, a CD collection from several groups, or maybe even a decent guitar.

Hope these ideas helped you! As a fellow musician, I wish you the best of luck! I know how it feels trying to raise money for your music program. I hope your program earns tons of money soon! :-P

  3. Amy Said,

There’s a company called DoodlyCouch that offers workbooks and journals for all sorts of people – they have one specifically for kids, as well. These are drawing journals – so you draw out the answer to "How do you feel today?" instead of writing it. They sell the books on Amazon and on their website (www.DoodlyCouch.com), but they also have a fundraising program and they let you make money by selling their books, with no money up front and no minimum order.

You could combine this with something fun like an art contest and prizes maybe?

I don’t know about in the US but in Canada Avon does fundraisers for schools. This year they are selling a set of 4 glass angels for $10 with the school getting $4.50 out each set.
I think that they do something similar in the states (not sure what the item is though) You might want to contact an Avon rep near you to find out about what they are selling.

  6. bill Said,

Here is an idea to raise funds without a fundraiser throughout the year. There is this online auctions and classified ads website that will donate money to schools. mainstreetfair.com will donate to a school of the sellers choice and all you would have to do is sell or buy items on their website. Millions of people are doing this already and as a result the websites/companies that they use make millions of dollars in revenue. So just imagine how much money schools can be making if half of the people that are shopping online would use mainstreetfair.com. Main street fair will donate 10 percent of their listing fees. I have been using this website for the last two months and everytime one of my items that I listed sells my son’s school gets money. I like it because it is easy to use, low listing fees, everything is upfront and right now they are giving free movie tickets to random people that list items for sale on the site.
