School Fundraising Ideas

Helping you raise money to support your teachers and kids

I am trying to fundraise for a volunteer trip that I am taking next summer to Australia. I need to raise about $5,500 to go on the trip. I am going to have a yard sale, sell candy bars at my relative’s jobs, ask for tax-deductable donations, save cans and bottles. I am 18 and cannot find a job. I have applied to many places. What are some fundraising ideas that can help me raise this money by July 2010?

You will probably need to do several fundraisers to raise that amount of money. Since you can’t find a job, but are 18 you are legally old enough to start your own home-based business so you might want to consider that as an option.

A product that is easy to sell over the fall and holidays is candles. You could either sell them as part of a fundraiser or sign up as a distributor to have it as a business. Either way it might help you raise the money you need for your trip.

There are lots of different companies out there, but not all will do fundraisers for individuals, so I’ve included a link to a website that will work with individuals that my friend’s son is using.

  2. Samm Said,

My school does fundraising with catalogs all the time, selling things like gourmet coffee, wrapping paper, cookie dough, all kinds of stuff.

Here’s a list of different fundraising websites, although I didn’t sift through it much, there’s a ton on here: http://www.fundraisingweb.org/listings/brochure.htm
    and another:

Also, maybe try to sell some stuff you don’t need on eBay. You might get more than at the garage sale…

It’s great that your looking at taking action now. The more time you have the more campaigns you can use to raise the money. There are some things you can offer now that won’t cost you anything. Think of talents and skills that you have that you can charge for. What hobbies or skills can you offer people:
    Tutoring
    Musical instruments
    babysitting

You can sell things like skrach cards / items from calendars / food. Take the order, call a fundraising company, collect the money, pay the fundraising company. Lots of ideas on our site.

Auction off tickets to a local play. Advertise through a local paper or tv station.
